Lamitan, 17 April 2023
UPCAO, through Ms. Tina Hernandez and Ms. Lovely Mae Laborte, accompanied by Ms. Heidi Mercado, delivered art supplies to Lamitan, Basilan this month, for a painting activity. During the activity, students of Campo Uno Elementary School in Lamitan, Basilan, aided by troops from the 18th Infantry (Deo et Patria) Battalion, painted what they imagined “peace” to be. What would their communities look like with peace? What would their school look like with peace? What did peace mean to them?
Artistic students from every class took acrylic paint to canvas and each produced their own tile for the peace mosaic.
At the end of the activity, the students and teachers of Campo Uno Elementary School posed for a photo with the troops and the UPCAO representatives present.
We look forward to more activities with communities in Lamitan and elsewhere in the country.
